Fall Polish Choices

Its time for a blog post. I have a few photos piling up and so here's a few that I have been wearing. Some of these have already been on my Fashion Blog but sometimes the posts on Meadowtree Style get so long that I just don't want to any something else. None of these colors are "just releases" because I was on a polish no buy for about a year. So here we go................

Nubar's Forest. Forest is from their Going Green collection. Unfortunately, Nubar has fallen on hard times and is no longer producing polish. Fortunately, Amazon has an amazing amount of Nubar for sale.

Dollish Polish's The Witching Hour was from the 2016 A Box Indie. I got it from a stash sale on Facebook. Although meant for Halloween, with its green base I love it for Fall in general.

Can I say anymore about a england? I so love any thing Adina makes. This is Briarwood from her Burne-Jones Dream collection.

I have this Nubar on at the moment. It is Vino from their Venetian Glass series. I have the whole set and have decided that this is the month to try to wear at least half of this collection.

This is Surreal Sunset by Fingerpaints which is found at Sally's Beauty and we all probably have one of those near us somewhere. Isn't this a great duochrome. It goes from pink to gold to bronze-amazing!

Sometimes I just have to double up! This Dazed by Cult Nails topped by Laser Jet by Cirque.

And finally, a great one from Rainbow Honey. This is Kawako from their first Yokai collection. Its been around for awhile but I hope they still have it. Their shop is closed until after Christmas.

That's it for this time around-just wanted to share some of the stash with you. I've started buying a few polishes again after taking a year off and just sent my third polish box to a local women's shelter. I do this rather than send bottles into Zoya during their Earth Day sale. I always get a plastic $1 box and make sure I have a new bottle of polish remover and cotton balls to go along with the polishes.

Last weekend, we went to a Downton Abby event. Here's what I wore on my nails. The bottom coat is Excalibur by A-England and the top coat is Dazed by Cult Nails. I think the colors speak for themselves.

Holiday Swirls

Hello Nailistas wherever you may be!

I finally felt like doing something a little festive. I have been wearing a-england's Dragon all week. While cruising Walmart's craft department, I saw some gold fine tip paint pens and thought I would give them a try. 

I first did a simple S-curve and then took curled lines off it. 

September-Ovarian Cancer Awareness

A sweet friend from Instagram alerted us to the fact that it is Ovarian Awareness Month. She has a clean bill of health now, but a few years ago was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.

My sister is an RN who worked in oncology. She has many times told me that Ovarian is the scary one because it is usually isn't detected until it is to late. We need better screenings for this monster!

I am religious about getting my yearly Mammogram and Pap Smear. But there's nothing for this one. 

I did this for Sarah and all the other lovey ladies who are fighting the fight, those who won the fight, and for those who lost the fight. 

I thought the Butterfly was an excellent symbol for this cancer and I really wanted to hand paint it and not use a stamp.First I drew it with my Strip Rite Stripper and then added detail with a-England's Merlin and my fuchsia Sharpie. There's two, I guess one for each ovary. I don't know how well it came out, but it was heartfelt, I can tell you that. 

Here's the individual shots that I used in my poster.  The base for the Butterflies is Kim Michelle's soon to be released "Teal Me Your Fantasy". The gradation is done with Kim's Teal and a-England's Excalibur on a base of Zoya's Harley.

I then added a small amount of Bellaluna's glitter topper Metanoia.

Design Mashup

Hello Everyone, Here I am posting on a Sunday again. I finally got a new post finished and decided to just do it. I hope everyone is having a good start to the new week!

I am calling today's design a mashup. The mashup idea that I am using is from the sewing world. A mashup is when you put together different patterns and ideas to create one look. The idea I had for this mani seem to do just that.

I think I am going to just list in order what I did. That would be easier to follow along-sort of a how to.

STEP 1-I first did a skittle. The thumb and pinky has Rescue Beauty Lounge's Jane, the index finger has Spa Ritual's Mood and the middle and ring finger has Butter London's Pitter Patter. 

Step 2-I then did a gradient using Rescue Beauty Lounge's Jane on Butter London's Pitter Patter.

Step 3-Using Butter London's Pitter Patter and a dotting tool, I created the large dots on Rescue Beauty Lounge's Jane.

Step 4-Using an idea that I got from Shelby Lou Nails, I first stamped dots on my index finger and then used that pattern as a guide to make dots using with Rescue Beauty Lounge's Jane.  

Step 5-I then top-coated everything with a-england's Hurt No Living Thing and when that dried finished everything off with a top coat.

Hurt No Living Thing added a beautiful violet shimmer to the whole look. Being of thin consistency, I think this is what it was made for.

Rescue Beauty Lounge's Jane is what started it all. I got  Jane in an Ebay auction with two other RBL polishes. Although it has shimmer, it doesn't really show up that well on the nail and I thought it was just sort of boring. I starting thinking what I could add to it and one thing lead to another.

I really thought this was a beautiful group of polishes so had to take a shot. I also added Jolie Polish's liquid latex. After finding her on ETSY,  I've started to do a little more gradient work. I just hated the clean up. And now I don't have hardly any to do.

I also have her 3 in 1 brush and can say it is an excellent investment.

Love Is In The Air-Favorite Technique

I am taking part in the "Love Is In The Air" Nail Challenge. Today's theme is our favorite nail art technique. I picked a jelly sandwich. I think I get more bang for my buck when I do this. I can used a lot of different glitters together and can make a subtle but pretty cool look (OK, that's IMO)!

 My main base polish is Kiss Off by Signet Nails. Lauren did this as part of a trio for an anti-love set. 

I almost won the contest naming this one, which is why I have a bottle. Lauren is a sweetie. She sent me this bottle and then took my suggestion (Tainted Love) and created a beautiful blue jelly which I now own!

Kiss Off is a deep pink (three steps away for red to my eyes) jelly. I had a lot of fun with this mani. First, I put on two coats of Kiss Off, then a layer of holographic glitter (a Jenna Hipp mini). Around the top and sides, I added a layer of a-England's Merlin for an extra spark. Lastly, I added a third coat of Kiss Off. 

With just one coat on top, the holo still works great. This has to be one of my favorite jelly sandwich looks I have done. Do you like to make jelly sandwiches?-I guess literally or figuratively?

Kiss Off

Hello Everyone,

First up, Kiss Off is the name of the polish-just wanted to let you know that I wasn't telling everyone to get lost!

I hope life is finding everyone pretty good today. I just spent the weekend with my daughter at a veterinary conference (she's the vet, I'm not) and had a chance to sit in on a couple of nutrition lectures. Having both cats and dogs, nutrition is something I am concerned with.

I haven't had to much time to work with nails and blogging. But for today, I am wearing Kiss Off  by Signet Nails.  Kiss Off  is part of a collaboration between Signet Nails, Lou It Yourself and Rica. The polish is part of a trio and will available on January 30th. The ladies are doing a single awareness theme and the set will be available one January 30th.

Pick N Mix #16-Gaff's Unicorn Origami From Bladerunner

The Challenge for The Pick N Mix this week was a holo polish and a film. I hope this means a cinematic film and not some nail technique that I have never heard of! I picked the unicorn origami from Blade Runner.

I have long been a fan of Ridley Scott's 1982 Blade Runner. This movie is dark, genius and haunting. It has seen many different cuts and there is always the age old question: Is Decker a replicant?

So on to the actual nail design part. For the holo part, I used a-england's Fated Prince. This needed to be dark.  The Unicorn is painted with Spa Ritual's Silver Shimmer. The top coat is something new for me. It is Pure Ice's Girl On The Run. I don't buy Pure Ice anymore because of it's association with Revlon, but made an exception for this top coat. Everyone has been raving so much about it, I decided to try it.  

Another new experience for me was using Julep's Plie´ Wand. It came in a free box this month and I only had to pay for the two extra attachments. I thought it worked pretty good, especially the stripper. It just added a little extra fun to the whole bit. 

It's hard for me do do something about this movie and not show a few scenes and dialogue from it. So here goes. The first has to be Gaff's Unicorn.

Gaff (Edward James Olmos): You've done a man's job, sir. I guess you're through, huh?

Deckard (Harrison Ford): Finished.

[Gaff throws Deckard his gun]

Gaff: It's too bad she won't live! But then again, who does?

Batty: (Rutger Hauer) I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Deckard (Harrison Ford): Do you love me?

Rachael (Sean Young): I love you.

Deckard: Do you trust me?

Rachael: I trust you.

Pick N Mix #14-Three Shades Of Purple and Dots

Hello Everyone, It is week 14 for the Pick N Mix. So far I have not missed one week but I know there is still a long way to go. This week called for three shades of purple and/or dots. I mainly followed the three shades of purple but added a few dots at the end just for the heck of it. But I will admit, you really have to look closely to see any dots!

I decided to make this a New Year's mani and did an impressionistic firework scene.

You can sort of see the dots in the macro:-)

And finally, the three polishes that I used: The base coat is It's An Original by Finger Paints. The firework effect is done with Carter by Zoya and Her Rose Adagio by a-england.

Simple Lightening Nail Design

The Nail Polish Queens had "Lightening Nails" as their challenge this week. I decided to do something simple and came up with this design. One bolt travels across all four nails so each nail is different. The dark blue jelly glitter polish already looks like the nighttime sky and the drawing was easy to do. 

 The base coat is Ferris Wheel At Dusk by Chaos and Crocodiles.  The bolt was first drawn with a Stripe Rite Silver and filled in with a-england's Merlin.

Ferris Wheel At Dusk is a dark blue jelly with blue, fuchsia and turquoise and silver glitter in various sizes. Merlin is just the best silver glitter I have and Stripe Rite is the work horse of my polishes when I want thin lines.

Mauve, Rose, And Violet For Spring

I've been pulling some violets from my collection and wearing them this week.

Some Notes

* Her Rose Adagio by A-England is part of the Ballerina Collection dedicated to Margot Fonteyn. I purchased this shade through LLarowe. This is a rosy mauve with violet undertones.  A-England is one of my favorite brands. Theses polishes are drop dead gorgeous and go on beautifully.

* Zara by Zoya  is a muted violet with copper shimmer. It is quiet but unique. Zara has been around for a while but I just added it to my collection. 

* Peonie by Darling Diva is the Indie of the three. It was being discontinued and I snagged the last bottle. This is a soft shade of mauve and pink. Peonie is holographic, and really comes alive in natural sunlight. I was impressed by it's quality. The link to Darling Diva's Big Cartel site is here.

Blue Room Nails

Earlier this month we went to the Blue Room to listen to Eboni And The Ivories. The Blue Room is located in The American jazz Museum in Kansas City. 

I did a blue design for the occasion.  The polished used were:

Base coat-Char by Julep
Lines-Silver Stripe Rite
Accent nail-Merlin by A-England

She Walks In Beauty And Goddess

Polishes: She Walks In Beauty by a-england and  Goddess by Ulta

Notes: I wore this type of french manicure to my high school reunion. She Walks In Beauty is a gorgeous rose tone gold glitter. I have a lot of gold and this one is my favorite. 

For the background color I needed a tempered neutral gold and found that Ulta's Goddess worked perfectly. 

I really though the two pulled together a pretty classy mani. 

A-england and Ulta are cruelty free.

My British Invasion

And no, its not the Beatles, Stones, or Herman's Hermits. This time it is A-England and Barry M. 

Over here, on the west side of the big pond, we can easily get Rimmel and Butter London. Rimmel is at every Wal-Mart and Butter can be found at the better cosmetic stores. However, A-England and Barry M have to be hunted down on the Internet and ordered from specialty stores that import international polishes. 

Silvery Lilac with Merlin accents

For my first Barry M, I chose Silvery Lilac. It is a lilac/silver duochrome, a three thumbs up for me. Merlin, a silver glitter, was the A-England that I picked to go with it. I have Pure Ice's Bee Ware which is also a silver glitter, and always thought it was just fine. But Merlin shoots it out of the water. Merlin is glorious. I had to do an accent nail with it, I loved it so much.

First, I put on two coats of Silvery Lilac and then on the four non-accent nails, did a sort of a horse shoe effect with the Merlin, getting thicker as I got closer to the top of the nail bed. I did have to use nail art brushes for this one.

I tried an outdoor sun shot. The duochrome is much more prevalent on a sunny day. 

In summary, my experience was wonderful with these two polishes. They both go on like a dream. I already have another A-England and am looking at the Barry M ice cream polishes. They look yummy!

Barry M and a-england are both cruelty free.
