Pick N Mix #25-Stain Glass Window Nails

I've been MIA for a while on this challenge, but this one just calls for me to use my Nubar's Venetian Glass. This polish set and it screams stain glass windows!

Venetian Glass polishes were released in 2010. I didn't even polish my nails back then and purchased them from Ebay this past winter. These polishes are glass flecked and beautiful. They look like stain glass!

I first painted my nails a base white. After deciding on my design, I drew in the "lead" lines with an ultra fine Sharpie. I did the color work with a 18/0 spotter brush.

There are eight hues in the Venetian glass set. I used six. Blue is not in the color collection so Pure Ice's Splash filled in.

THE POLISHES

Oro and Arencia

Roso and Bronzo

Vino and Vaso

Pure Ice's Splash and China Glaze's White On White

This is a link up so check down below for some great design work.

Well, that's it for today. Take care and until next time........Terri

Pick N Mix-Geometrical Design With Blue, Green and Yellow

Hello on the cold, cold Sunday. Or at least it is here. It's 23* with a strong wind chill...Brrrrrrr. I haven't been out yet but need to feed my ducks and chickens. My darling husband did a big favor for me and fed my Alpacas<3.

On with the challenge. I am very late with it this week and almost didn't do anything. But I hate being a quitter and someday I may quit but I guess not today.

The promps were geometrical nails with green, blue and yellow. Mondrian had been back in my mind all week. I did try some stamping but didn't like it. Out came the paint brushes.

I know that Mondrian has been done a lot, but this is my Mondrian!

I used four polishes on this one. The base is Color Club's Look Don't Tusk.  The fill in colors are Illamaqua's Radium, Cult Nails' You're My Dandelion and Cult Nails' Nakizzle's Sizzle.

Here is one of Mondrian's later styles. I don't know if most people are familiar with this softer more painterly style that he later developed. When I would teach Mondrian to my 1st graders, I would always start out with the more recognized styles and then would finish up with some paintings of this style.

Sticking this one here so I can grab it for IG

So there you go, #21 is done! Take care and stay
warm.

Pick N Mix-Purple and Hearts

Hello, this is a busy week. I think this is post #3 for me this week. I guess Valentine week will do that for you.

Today is the 20th edition of the Pick N Mix and the theme is Purple and hearts. This must be a nod to Valentine Day.

I went for hand painting again. I turned my hearts into notes and added a few dots.

I used one of my favorite Indie Brands, Signet Nails for the base coat. This is one of her new releases, Violet Femme. Violet Femme is a lavender sheer jelly base with flashes of amethyst shimmer.

A closer look at Violet Femme (used in another mani).

My thumb-I wanted to see if I could paint a Treble clef.

The other colors that I used were L.A. Colors Reckless and Stripe Rite Silver.

That wraps this session up and so until I am here again, take care...............................Terri

And as usual this is a link up so check out the other cool Valentine manis below.

52 Week Pick N Mix-Light Blue And Flowers

Hello Everyone!

I have week #19 for the 52 Week Pick N Mix Challenge. The promps this week are Flowers and/or pale blue. I decided to combine them and do both. I will say I wore this one for awhile, loved it! We have had up and down weather in Missouri this week and these nails were just a pick me up.

My first decision was what to have for the base. I really like Sinful Colors' Cinderella. Cinderella is a light blue with pink-orange shimmer. But Cinderella is also pretty sheer and I didn't have the patience for 3-4 coats.

That is where Ozotic 751 came into play. It has a similar blue tone but also has a slight pink duochrome and I was hoping that the pink might show just slightly through the one coat of Cinderella.

And I know you are muttering, "she did what?. Yep, I put a cheapie ($1.99 at Wall-mart) on top of Ozotic  and it got me the look I wanted.

I hand painted parts of flowers with my Molotow white acrylic pen. I like just having parts of the flowers coming in from the edges. I have always likes when things are coming and going from the canvas edges and I guess nails are no different.

Color Club's Blue Beaded added some darker blue and some textural interest. Blue Beaded is an interesting polish. It's not really a glitter and it does seem to have micro beads suspended in a clear base.

Ozotic 751, Blue Beaded and Cinderella

I love these fine point pens by Molotow. I got a few last Fall at the Kansas City Art Institute's Bookstore.

That's it for this round. So until next time, take care.

52 Week Pick N Mix-Floss Gloss And Lace

Hello again!

This is  week 18 of the 52 week challenge. The promp that I chose was the alternative (non-glitter) topper. Being a sewer, I have quite a fabric stash and found some black lace that had flowers.

The base is Floss Gloss's Dinge, which is a great nude pink. I thought it went fantastic with the black flowers and added some black studs from The Born Pretty Store for extra visual interest.

The lace idea is a definite repeat. Finding lace small enough is half the battle. After that, everything went quite easily.

I put on a top coat and then placed the lace and after that dried, added a second coat of clear. If I was wearing this for an extended time and would also top coat the studs.

So what do you think? Would you use non nail products for nail design.

As usual, this is a link up, so check out some of the other ladies below.

Take care and keep warm, (well, if you are in the Northern Hemisphere!) and until next time, take care.

Pick N Mix #17-3 Greens and a Yellow

Hello again, I hope everyone is having a good day.

It's time for another  52 Week Pick N Mix. The promps this week were fire and or 3 greens and a yellow. I just didn't want to do fire. And the only answer I came up with was a type of plaid using some of my older colors.

I used Nubar's Primrose for a base yellow. I've had this for a while and added it because it has a very light and soft yellow tone.

It was funny that with all the new greens I have, I went back to my older colors for the design.

The stripes were done in OPI's Just Spotted The Lizard and Darling Diva's Baroo Barooo. The interior was filled inn with Borghese's Limoncello. Limoncello is one of my oldest but still one of my favorite shades. And Lizard is up there too.

That's a wrap for this round. It turned out to be an Oldie But Goldie mani.

As usual, this is a link up. And for January it is a double group (there are two challenges going on in January with only one link).

Take care and until next time, Terri

Pick N Mix #16-Gaff's Unicorn Origami From Bladerunner

The Challenge for The Pick N Mix this week was a holo polish and a film. I hope this means a cinematic film and not some nail technique that I have never heard of! I picked the unicorn origami from Blade Runner.

I have long been a fan of Ridley Scott's 1982 Blade Runner. This movie is dark, genius and haunting. It has seen many different cuts and there is always the age old question: Is Decker a replicant?

So on to the actual nail design part. For the holo part, I used a-england's Fated Prince. This needed to be dark.  The Unicorn is painted with Spa Ritual's Silver Shimmer. The top coat is something new for me. It is Pure Ice's Girl On The Run. I don't buy Pure Ice anymore because of it's association with Revlon, but made an exception for this top coat. Everyone has been raving so much about it, I decided to try it.

Another new experience for me was using Julep's Plie´ Wand. It came in a free box this month and I only had to pay for the two extra attachments. I thought it worked pretty good, especially the stripper. It just added a little extra fun to the whole bit.

It's hard for me do do something about this movie and not show a few scenes and dialogue from it. So here goes. The first has to be Gaff's Unicorn.

Gaff (Edward James Olmos): You've done a man's job, sir. I guess you're through, huh?
Deckard (Harrison Ford): Finished.
[Gaff throws Deckard his gun]
Gaff: It's too bad she won't live! But then again, who does?

Batty: (Rutger Hauer) I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die.

Deckard (Harrison Ford): Do you love me?
Rachael (Sean Young): I love you.
Deckard: Do you trust me?
Rachael: I trust you.

A new life awaits you in the Off-world colonies! A chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!

Blade Runner is loosely based on the Phillip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

That's it for this time around. Hope I didn't bore anyone with my movie stuff. So until we meet again, pleasant dreams!

Pick N Mix #14-Three Shades Of Purple and Dots

Hello Everyone, It is week 14 for the Pick N Mix. So far I have not missed one week but I know there is still a long way to go. This week called for three shades of purple and/or dots. I mainly followed the three shades of purple but added a few dots at the end just for the heck of it. But I will admit, you really have to look closely to see any dots!

I decided to make this a New Year's mani and did an impressionistic firework scene.

You can sort of see the dots in the macro:-)

And finally, the three polishes that I used: The base coat is It's An Original by Finger Paints. The firework effect is done with Carter by Zoya and Her Rose Adagio by a-england.

That wraps up this post. And I am wishing every one a Happy New Year and take care until we meet again.

This is a link up so check out the great designs below!

52 Week Pick N Mix #13-Grey And Distressed Nails

This week's challenge was distressed nails and/or grey. I thought this was sort of strange, being Christmas week, but I did combine both promps. I love simulated texture. These nails looks jagged and like they have real tactile surface but they are smooth. And they were so much fun to do. I think I will be doing more of this style, just for me.

First, I went with a blingly silver glitter base in Color Club's Sex Symbol. Then the dry brush layering happened. I first used Dove by Zoya. The second polish was Moon Rendezvous by Deborah Lippmann. This added some blue grey to the mix. The last grey I used was Elevation Polish's Kita.  I then added some black with Zoya's Willa. The last step I did before I added the top coat was to dab on some more silver glitter.

A Close Up

The silver kept it from being so dreary. It sort of looks like grunge with sparkle.

So Here's The Crew

From Left To Right" Color Club's Sex Symbol, Zoya's Dove, Zoya's Willa (mini on side) Deborah Lippmann's Moon Rendezvous and Elevation Polish's Kita. I also used Zoya's Color Lock system that was part of my Black Friday Mystery Bag. Willa was also part of the Mystery Bag.

Well, that's a wrap up for this one. Gotta go bake, shop and clean house-all that wonderful getting ready for Christmas stuff. Take care and Happy Holiday's.

Pick N Mix #12-Crinkly Tape And A Glitter Topper

For week twelve of The Crumpet's 52 Week Pick N Mix, I have combined the two promps of crinkly tape and glitter. If you looks closely at masking tape, it has a small amount of texture so that was crinkly enough for me.

This is not a design, it is just me showing my favorite glitter of all time. It is Koi Pond by Rainbow Honey. Koi Pond was part of the original Sakura Matsuri Collection. The only polish they still make from this collection is Sakura Matsuri, the namesake. All the others have been discontinued.

It is topping Aqua Lilly Beetle Juice by Models Own.

Included a shot with the scissors

Shot of Models Own Aqua Lilly Beetle Juice, which is the base.

I am staying on Blogger for a while. WP is going to take a lot of work to add everything I want. So that is it for now. Take a look below at the other ladies' work and design and have a great week and take care.....Terri

52 Week Pick N Mix # 10-Camo and Green

This weeks Pick N Mix called for Camo and Green as the two promps. I added an extra challenge for me. It was to use every lacquer in my The New Black Safari collection. I found this set on the clearance rack at Ulta. And it had a "you got to take me home" price on it ($3.95). I feel that The New Black is overpriced but for 4 bucks, I'll try one.

It did make quite a different and creative design. It looks like "Disco Camo". Personally, I really like how it came out, especially when view from a little distance. Check my last pic. But I think this is going to be one of those you either love it or hate it thing.

So here are the colors and what I did with them.

1. Silver Metal-a metallic silver, was the base (except for the accent nail)

2. Ivory Tusk is an off white cream. I first created
    horizontal lines with this one.

3. Parrot Green is a dark green cream. More lines
were added with Parrot Green. The entire ring
finger was painted with Parrot Green.

4. Elephant Hide was next. This is a brown/black
crelly with gold glitter. It was hard to work with
this one. I just added small blobs.

5. And finally, Texture Gold which is jagged gold and
green glitters suspended  in a clear base. I brushed
this lightly over everything with extra on the ring
   finger.

And that is it.

A Close Up-Makes A Rather Nice Abstract, I Think

Here's the pic I snapped right after doing them.

Well, I've come to the end of another visit. Hope you enjoyed this one. I will have to admit, The New Black sets are fun to play with. And I guess I like camo if it is a little glitzy. But that's not really camouflage is it? I guess I will call it pseudo-camo.

Take care until we see each other again....Terri G

PICK N MIX #9-Brushwork

Hello everyone and happy day before Thanksgiving (for us in the U.S.). It is time for #9 of the 52 Week Pick N Mix nail challenge.

The Pick N Mix Challenge for this week was brushwork and or favorite brands. I have many favorite brands so I decided not to paint myself into a corner and went with brushwork using two of my many favorite brands.

I will admit that I went easy and fast with this one. Probably because it is Thanksgiving week and I have a multitude of stuff to get done. I used Mineral Fusion's Garnet, Butter London's MARBS, and a # 4 fan brush (Loew Cornell). It was two swishes on each nail and I was done.

I have trouble getting the glittery stuff out so this brush may never see a non nail surface again. I can always go get a new one for acrylic paint I guess.

Mineral Fusion's Garnet is a beauty in it's own right. It is a deep deep burgundy red and just perfect for this season. It is a very rich color with a lot of depth.

Mineral Fusion terms it a cream on their site. However I see it has a Crelly. It took three coats to reach opacity and it has that jelly like shine after it dries.

I don't see Mineral Fusion on blogs very often. It is a company that does have a full line of make up and body products and carries sixty different nail colors. They are a Leaping Bunny Brand which is important to me. All Mineral Fusion products are gluten free, paraben free and artificial color free. How the artificial color free relates to their nail polish, I am not quite sure.

In the states, it is carried by Whole Foods and Ulta. You can also order directly from Mineral Fusion.

And since Mineral Fusion is a Leaping Bunny company, Mr. BB had to drop by to give his approval.

This, as always, is a linkup. Check below for other great designs from the other artists.

And I guess I should also call these nails my "Jamberry Nail" imitation. I wore them out last night and a lady complemented me but immediately asked if the were Jamberry nails. She ended up getting a small art lesson on fan brushes and nail design. All in a day's work, I guess.

As usual, until we me again, take care and shine on....................
